About The Event

Did you know that some people collect sand? Sand collectors call themselves arenophiles. Have you ever wondered about the sand along the shore line of Lake Ontario? Geologist Fred Haynes will help us explore the sands of Lake Ontario. We will look into the composition and origin of the different sand types present at Sterling and elsewhere along Lake Ontario. There will be an indoor discussion followed by an expedition to the lakeshore to discover the sand types along the Nature Center’s shoreline. We will also seek out other geologic highlights. The program will be kid-friendly and appeal to those with an interest in Lake Ontario.
